Visiting Medellin

Medellín is home to approximately 2 million people. The city is enclosed by eight smaller cities and collectively they form the Area Metropolitana. Known for its perfect spring weather, the average daytime temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit.  The city is located in a valley between two Andean mountain ridges. The area boasts a fertile region famous for flower farms, orchids, butterflies and Columbian coffee.

Medellin is a contemporary city in a period of renaissance with a booming economy. In 2010 the city of Medellin hosted the South American Games. It is home to many local artists displayed in museums, like Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín or the Museo de Antioquia. Tourist will find plenty of parks as well as a zoo with more than a 1,000 animals to visit. The town features a lively cultural life with 4 major theatres that offer a variety of concerts, operas, and ballets. If you love dancing Medellin nightlife will keep you entertained with salsa dancing.

In the month of August, the city celebrates the Flower festival with a 10-day extravaganza. The annual exposition commemorates the blooming flower industry in Medellin as well as the independence of Antioquia. The celebration includes parades, concerts, and exhibits. The very colorful event celebrated its 61st anniversary in 2018.
